Important Updates & Information
State of California Updates -- Updated information and important resources related to COVID-19 can be found at https://www.covid19.ca.gov.
City & County Updates -- You can sign-up to receive important COVID-19 updates from the City of Los Angeles through NotifyLA. Updates from LA County can be found here. Information from Ventura County can be found here.
Federal Government Response -- Congressman Brad Sherman has assembled helpful information about the Federal Government’s responses to COVID-19.
Health & Mental Health Resources
COVID-19 Testing -- Information about testing for COVID-19 is available here.
Health Care & Insurance -- If you don’t have health insurance and need screening or treatment for COVID-19, you may be eligible to obtain health care through Medi-Cal or health insurance through Covered California.
Mental Health Resources -- If you’re feeling anxious, scared, depressed, or lonely, you’re not alone. There are important mental health resources you can access remotely and simple steps you can take to manage stress and anxiety. You can also call the LA County Department of Mental Health’s 24/7 Access Line at (800) 854-7771.
Domestic Violence Resources -- You can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 24/7 at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or access online resources here.
Los Angeles City/County Test Centers -- In partnership with Curative and CORE, free COVID-19 testing for ALL Los Angeles County residents, whether or not you are experiencing symptoms.
Financial Assistance for Individuals
State of California Financial Assistance -- If you can’t work, are facing reduced hours, or are caring for a sick or quarantined family member, you may qualify for state assistance.
Additional State Benefits -- You can also find information about paid sick leave, paid family leave, unemployment benefits, and other state benefits here.
Mortgage Payment Deferral -- If you’ve been impacted by COVID-19, you may be eligible to have your mortgage payments deferred for 90 days with no negative impact on your credit report. Deferments are not automatic, so be sure to check with your lender for more information. You can find more information here.
Employment Opportunities -- OnwardCA is a one-stop resource for Californians impacted by job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic. LAJobsPortal has information about job opportunities and resources for Angelenos who’ve been laid off or had their hours cut due to COVID-19. .
Financial Assistance for Small Businesses
Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation - The LA County EDC provides crucial resources for vulnerable residents, small businesses, and nonprofits. LA EDC’s staff of business assistance and layoff avoidance professionals can directly help employers overcome challenges, retain staff and position for economic recovery. Spotlights a growing array of financial resources that directly support individuals, as well as programs to help businesses and community-based organizations.
The California Rebuilding Fund -- Loan program to support California’s small businesses, especially those located in economically disadvantaged areas. Businesses who employed 50 or less full-time equivalent employees and had gross revenues of less than $2.5 million or below in 2019 are eligible to apply.
Small Business Relief Grant -- Package of assistance including $500 million in grants. Includes non-profits.
Other Resources -- Los Angeles County is providing grants of up to $10,000 and other assistance to small businesses and nonprofits impacted by COVID-19. Other resources for small business owners and employees are also available through the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development.
Educational Resources & Free Meals for Students -- Governor Newsom has projected that California schools are likely to remain closed for several months. Educational resources and information about LAUSD Grab & Go Food Centers (which are distributing free meals to students) can be found here. Information for the Las Virgenes Unified School District can be found here.
West Valley Food Pantry -- Drive-through or walk-up service for clients to come once a month. Find out more here.
Valley Food Bank -- Multiple food pantries located throughout the San Fernando Valley, including several in our district.
Grab-and-Go Meals from LAUSD -- Los Angeles Unified will continue to provide nutritious meals to students and community members who need them while students are learning in virtual classrooms. Anyone who arrives during open hours (M-F 7am - 10am) will be able to receive food. Find out more here.
DMV Issues -- The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has temporarily closed its offices and asked police not to ticket for expired drivers licenses or vehicle registrations. Essential services are available by mail, through online services, and via kiosks.
Price Gouging -- Price gouging is illegal in California. You can report price gouging to the California Attorney General’s Office by clicking here.
MyChildCare State Resources -- Find information on licensed childcare providers that are currently open including location, health and safety details, ages of children served, capacity, and hours of care.
Housing is Key -- Tenant and landlord resources; personalized report on your rights during COVID-19. Links to free legal services.
Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department (HCID) -- Can assist with tenant protections/know-your-rights. Find more here.
Volunteer Opportunities & Ways to Help
Volunteer Opportunities -- Every Californian can safely help their community during these difficult times by donating to a shelter or food bank, supporting nonprofits, donating blood, or performing a wellness check (by phone or text) on older neighbors. You can find out more here.
California Health Corps -- California is seeking additional healthcare providers, behavioral health professionals, and healthcare administrators to assist with the projected surge in COVID-19 patients. You can learn more and sign-up to assist with this critical project here.
Donate Blood -- The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donations. You can sign-up to donate at the Woodland Hills Blood Donation Center here.
Supporting Food Banks -- The West Valley Food Pantry and other foods banks are in urgent need of donations. For more information on how you can help those in need during these challenging times, please click here.
