Equifax — one of the largest credit reporting companies in the United States — announced that its databases were breached in a massive cyberattack that lasted from mid-May through July. The hack compromised credit information for an estimated 145 million people and included theft of social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and driver's license numbers.

In response to this breach, Equifax is waiving fees on credit freeze requests to allow consumers to protect their personal information from fraud and identity theft. Even if you have not used Equifax services, your information could still be compromised. To find out if you have been impacted by the Equifax data breach, please visit this website.

As Chair of the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee, I have called for a joint oversight hearing to discuss the Equifax data breach and examine precautions we can take to protect consumers in the future. The hearing will include time for public comment where I will take questions and concerns. Here are the details:

Join me and other Valley residents for a Town Hall that will be focused on issues important to seniors.

Take this opportunity to discuss matters affecting seniors in the Valley: affordable housing, protecting our environment, financial fraud and abuse, access to health care, availability of long-term care and reducing crime in our neighborhoods.

Staff from my office, Congressman Brad Sherman’s office, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s office will be on site to assist you with any issues you might have with federal, state, or county agencies.  Also, Providence Tarzana Medical Center will be providing free blood pressure screening.  Representatives from the City and County Departments of Aging will be providing an overview of the services that they provide for seniors.  And, a public safety officer will be presenting on emergency preparedness.
