Assemblymember Dababneh Honors Global Mobility of Van Nuys as “Nonprofit of the Year”
SACRAMENTO — Assemblymember Matt Dababneh (D – Woodland Hills) recognized Global Mobility, a humanitarian organization based in Van Nuys, as the Nonprofit of the Year for the 45th Assembly District.
Global Mobility provides free wheelchairs to children and adults with disabilities in developing nations around the world. Since its founding in 2012, Global Mobility has provided more than 6,000 people with the freedom of mobility. By the end of 2017, the organization will have served over 1,000 more individuals in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico, and Ukraine.
Last December, Global Mobility was robbed when thieves stole 80 wheelchairs, worth over $12,000, that were destined for children with disabilities in Indonesia and Nicaragua. Assemblymember Dababneh spearheaded efforts with community leaders and local business owners to help provide aid for Global Mobility to ensure new wheelchairs would be shipped on time and delivered to these children.
“It is a great honor to present Global Mobility with this award to recognize this organization’s passion and commitment to ensure that children with disabilities have the gift of mobility,” said Assemblymember Dababneh. “Most of the wheelchairs they provide are donated and refurbished by their highly skilled technicians and volunteers at its Van Nuys headquarters, many of whom are wheelchair users themselves.”
“Working with in-country partners, we provide properly-fitted wheelchairs and other ambulatory equipment, free of charge, allowing us to improve the lives of thousands of people with disabilities every year,” said Chris Grange, executive director of Global Mobility. “Providing mobility changes lives instantly by making it possible for children to go to school for the first time, allowing parents to work to support their family, and so much more. It is heartening for our community leaders to recognize the importance of what we do, and we are truly honored that Assemblymember Dababneh has chosen us as Nonprofit of the Year for his district.”
Global Mobility received its award at the California Nonprofits Day ceremony today hosted by the California Association of Nonprofits. Nearly one hundred nonprofit organizations from around the state have been selected by their legislators as their Nonprofits of the Year.
