Assemblymember Dababneh Honors Local Air Force Veteran for Service to Country and Community
SACRAMENTO — Assemblymember Matt Dababneh (D – Woodland Hills) recognized Air Force Veteran Kelvin McNeal as “Veteran of the Year” for the 45th Assembly District, at a ceremony today in Sacramento.
“Kelvin McNeal has dedicated his life to serving our country and state,” said Assemblymember Dababneh. “I am proud to name him as our Veteran of the Year for his distinguished U.S. Air Force duty and experience working with fellow veterans in the Valley.”
“Serving in the Air Force and in the Valley has truly allowed me to find myself,” said McNeal. “Helping others along the way only makes the journey to finding myself that much better. I wish to thank Assemblymember Dababneh for this honor.”
McNeal enlisted into the Air Force on August 26, 2008, and served six years working in aircraft maintenance with a specialization in electrical and environmental aviation systems. During his Air Force career, he joined the 860th Aerospace Maintenance Squadron at Travis Air Force Base and served on four deployments to southwest Asia in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, and Enduring Freedom. By the end of his six-year commitment, he attained the rank of Senior Airman (E-4).
Upon leaving active duty, McNeal has continued his Air Force career by joining the Air Force Reserves as a member of the 452nd Air Mobility Wing / Judge Advocate General Unit as a Paralegal, where he continues to work with Air Force personnel on their legal needs. In his civilian career, McNeal has worked in the district office of then-Senator Carol Liu (25th Senate District) where he performed casework and other services for veterans.
McNeal received his "Veteran of the Year" award at the Tenth Annual Veterans Recognition Luncheon, attended by Members of the State Assembly and State Senate, along with dignitaries from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
