SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember James Ramos (D-Highland) issued the following statement on the proposed state 2020-21 budget:
Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a state budget that is true to his word, affirming necessary investments in vital programs amid historic financial surpluses.
This budget reflects shared values and current local needs. It increases the quality of life for area residents by reducing homelessness, supporting education and health care, promoting economic growth and high-paying jobs, plus boosting small businesses—all while remaining fiscally responsible. It was heartening to see a variety of proposals to make our state a better place for entrepreneurs, such as reducing the minimum tax rate for new small businesses and focusing on the Inland Empire in the “Regions Rise Together” economic development initiative to target economic development in four regions around the state. Small businesses are the engine of our economy—and I will fight to ensure this year’s budget eases burdens on them.
Last year we fought hard through the budget process to win significant victories for people in the 40th Assembly District. As the budget process continues, I will continue fighting for the Inland Empire and my district to ensure our community’s needs are met.
