SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland) announced today he is joining fellow legislators in authoring the California Works and Recovery Act to support California’s recovery through job creation, small business assistance, infrastructure projects and food banks.
Ramos said the bill, AB 1842 introduced by Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) and himself is designed to help local communities around the state with the economic and infrastructure strain created by COVID-19. “Our state is facing historic challenges resulting from the economic devastation caused by the pandemic,” Ramos said. “We need to help our unemployed. We need to help small businesses survive and entrepreneurs seeking to create new jobs. We need to ensure California provides the financial resources and sound hospitals, classrooms, and necessary workforce staff to get us through this crisis and future disasters such as earthquakes and wildfires.”
The California Works and Recovery Act will:
· Fund infrastructure projects for immediate job creation
· Provide recovery grants for local housing, transportation and community “shovel ready” development projects
· Increase healthcare workforce in high shortage areas
· Invest in hospitals for seismic retrofits
· Fund additional wildfire mitigation efforts and jobs
· Expand CA Competes Tax Credit for businesses hit by COVID-19
· Provide assistance for food banks.
AB 1842 co-authors include Joaquin Arambula, Jim Cooper, Jim Frazier, Eduardo Garcia, Mike Gipson, Timothy Grayson, Jose Medina, Cottie Petrie-Norris, Freddie Rodriguez, Blanca Rubio, Sharon Quirk-Silva and Senator Cathleen Galgiani.
