SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland), first elected in November 2018, was sworn in today for his second term representing the 40th District in the California State Assembly.
“I am proud to have been re-elected by the voters of San Bernardino County, especially at this challenging time for the state and nation,” Ramos said. “Building collaborative relationships across party lines and working closely with local officials and constituents helped me succeed in representing my district.”
Ramos added, “We will confront many issues in the next two years, but our priorities must include protecting the most vulnerable and moving boldly and quickly to help California recover and rebound from this deadly pandemic.”
Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) congratulated Ramos on his re-election and said, “I look forward to partnering with Assemblymember Ramos on a new term.” Rendon stated, “He has proved himself an able and effective legislator who works well with Democrats and Republicans in both houses. His strong leadership on mental health issues has been especially important as we deal with the pandemic. Now, more than ever, as the first and only Native American serving in the Legislature, he does not let us forget a historically overlooked community as the state responds to COVID-19, wildfires and other emergencies that have devastated California.”
Ramos, is the first California Native American legislator in the state’s 170-year history. Last year, Ramos worked on mental health, small business economic relief, public safety and tribal issues. “I plan to continue my focus in these areas and to expand the valued partnerships and collaboration that helped me serve effectively during my first term.”
