Governor signs Ramos desert conservation bill

SACRAMENTO—Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Tuesday to create the California Desert Conservation Program at the California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) to acquire, preserve, restore and enhance desert conservation habitat within the state’s desert region. The measure, AB 1183, was introduced by Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland).

SACRAMENTO—Governor Gavin Newsom today signed six wide-ranging tribal bills introduced by Assemblymember James Ramos (D-Highland). They aid tribal foster youth, create a new monument to Sacramento-area tribes on state Capitol grounds, bolster students’ right to wear tribal regalia at graduation ceremonies, allow a paid holiday for state court personnel on California Native American Day and streamline access to emergency response vehicles on tribal lands. Newsom signed the legislative package on California Native American Day.

Ramos bill to boost high school student vocational workforce programs heads to governor

SACRAMENTO—A measure requiring school districts and other school agencies to notify apprenticeship programs about upcoming college and career fairs to increase student awareness of careers in the trades heads to the governor after a unanimous bipartisan Senate floor vote of 39-0 on Monday. Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland) is authoring the measure, AB 643.
