Ramos votes for state budget emergency measures to provide relief in wake of COVID 19 pandemic

SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember James Ramos (D-Highland) announced today his vote in support of two COVID 19-related measures to provide emergency appropriations to deal with the crisis.

SB 89 authored by the Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review amends the 2019-20 state budget to appropriate up to $500 million to meet the coronavirus emergency as well as funding of up to $1 billion more as needed.

Assemblymember shares knowledge of his tribe with UC Riverside students, faculty: First California Native American legislator to speak of his Serrano culture, history at UCR

RIVERSIDE—Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland) will meet with University of California Riverside undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty to discuss his Serrano-Cahuilla history, cultural protocols and language. His presentation is part of a daylong workshop to prepare students for working with the nearby Cahuilla, Serrano, Tongva, and Luiseño tribal communities. UCR staff is working on an ongoing “IndigenizeUCR’ project to bring greater awareness and knowledge of the university’s location on Native land and Native history.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember James Ramos (D-Highland) issued the following statement today following Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2020 State of the State address:

The governor should be praised for his focused and continued approach to California’s homeless crisis. He was correct to make the State of the State a call to action, not just a moment to feel a pang of guilt.
